Age Group Transition for VOB Soccer Club - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
A change in age group formation for clinic and intramurals for the fall 2025 season will transition from the current calendar year (January 1 - December 31) to a seasonal year based on the school calendar (September 1 - August 31). This adjustment aligns with the approach of US Youth Soccer and other major youth soccer organizations, including Long Island Junior Soccer League.
Age groups will be as follows for the fall 2025 season:
Intramurals - birth dates 9/1/17-8/31/19
Clinic - U4 (birth dates 9/1/21-8/31/22), U5 (birth dates 9/1/20-8/31/21), U6 (birth dates 9/1/19-8/31/20)
Please see below for some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) will help ensure a smooth transition:
1. What is the main change happening with age groups?
The age groups will be determined by a seasonal year (September 1 - August 31) instead of the calendar year (January 1 - December 31) for player registration.
2. Why is US Soccer making this change?
This change aligns with school-grade peers, which is expected to foster more socially cohesive teams and enhance the overall youth soccer experience for families.
3. When will this change take effect?
This change will begin at our club with the fall 2025 clinic and intra season.
4. How will I determine my child's new age group?
The age groups will be based on players born between September 1st and August 31st. For example, for the fall 2025 clinic and intra season, a player born between September 1, 2019, and August 31, 2020 would fall into the U6 clinic age group. A specific age group chart will be provided within the registration links that we'll be distributing.
5. Will my child be able to stay with their current team/friends?
Many players will now be able to stay with their school classmates/teammates. It is technically possible for existing teams to stay together, but some players born on or after September 1st might be considered "playing up" an age group if they remain with their current teammates.
6. Will my child be able to "play up" or "play down" an age group?
Players will continue to be allowed to "play up" (play in an older age group), but generally not to "play down".
7. Who can I contact if I have further questions?
Please direct any specific questions or concerns to any of the following members of our club:

CLINIC & INTRAMURAL PROGRAMS INFO
CLINIC (birth dates 9/1/19-8/31/22)
The Clinic program at V.O.B. Soccer is for young players who are interested in trying soccer. The program is designed to introduce young children from the ages of 3 to 6 to the game. The children are not expected to have any skills in soccer, only a desire to have fun playing the game. They play on a small team against other V.O.B. teams at the same age level (coed). The teams meet on Sunday afternoons (some Saturday exceptions) for a half hour practice led by our trainers from Strive Athletics, which is followed by a half hour game. The size of field and goals varies which each age group. The focus of the program is to have all of the children have as many “touches” with a soccer ball as possible, getting them comfortable playing the game. No scores are kept and all of the children are given equal time to play in the game. At the end of the season, all of the children are rewarded with a trophy for their efforts.
Unless otherwise stated all clinic sessions run Sundays from 12:00 -1:00 pm and/or 12:30- 1:30 pm at the Patrick Kinane Memorial Soccer Fields (behind St. Patrick' RC Church/School).
INTRAMURAL (birth dates 9/1/17-8/31/19)
The VOB soccer club offers a competitive, in-house Intramural program designed to help young soccer players continue their development and make the transition from our clinic program. Games are (4) four 12 minute quarters, with a continuous clock. Games are held at the Patrick Kinane Memorial Soccer Fields (behind St. Patrick' RC Church/School) and game times are on Sundays at either 2:00pm or 3:15pm (unless otherwise stated). Additionally, Intramural teams play crossover games with St. Joseph's CYO in Kings Park and Elwood Soccer Club. Games may also take place at their respective fields.
Volunteer Parent Coaches are always needed at the Clinic & Intramural Levels. No soccer experience is necessary. Please consider volunteering as a Coach or Assistant Coach for your child's team. Click the link below to register as a coach:
